The paper discusses potential optimization of space filling in transport vehicles, which was verified in relation to actual dimensions of transported roundwood assortments. This problem was analysed based on the most important determinants of wood transport in the logistics process, while referring to opinions of entrepreneurs providing transport services for forestry in selected regions of Poland. The study was carried out applying a diagnostic survey, using the technique of individual in-depth interview (IDI). The respondents’ answers were subjected to statistical verification. The results were compared and discussed, providing the most important conclusions and recommendations. It was found that the filling rate of transport vehicles’ cargo space is a derivative of dimensions of transported timber assortments. Standardizing the length of harvested roundwood may positively affect the effective filling of cargo space and thus optimize forest transport costs.
