Minute brown scavenger beetles (Coleoptera: Latridiidae) of the Białowieża Primeval Forest
Abstract
Based on a comprehensive review of the literature and own research, 52 species of Latridiidae in the Polish part of the Białowieża Primeval Forest (including 41 in the Białowieża National Park) were found, which constitutes 68.4% of all species recorded in Poland. For comparison, 42 species are currently known in the Belarusian part, but four Corticaria aphictoides Reitt., C. pubescens (Gyll.), Dienerella filum (Aubé) and Melanophthalma suturalis (Mann.) were not reported from the Polish part. In total, 56 species of Latridiidae are known in the entire cross-border natural area, which confirms the uniqueness of this forest and proves a very good knowledge of these beetles compared to other forest complexes in lowland Europe. During the research carried out in the 1997-2021, 7253 specimens belonging to 37 species of minute brown scavanger beetles were caught, including Corticaria pineti Lohse, 1960 – a new species for the fauna of the Białowieża Primeval Forest.
