Impact of equestrian tourism on the forest environment on the example of the Leżajsk Forest District
Abstract
The aim of the study was to determine the impact of horse riding recreation and tourism on selected components of the environment in the forests of the Leżajsk Forest District. An 18 km long horse trail was selected for testing along which a 1 km transect was established with
control points every 10 m on both sides of the trail. In this way, 200 points were distinguished in to determine: the degree of soil damage, damage to young trees, the degree of littering of the forest. Soil damage was recorded at every second checkpoint, of which 12% was compacted soil. Out of 662 inventoried young trees, 18.7% were damaged. Waste was found in the field of view in 18.5% of checkpoints. Such a high level of littering, as well as damage to the soil and the young generation of the forest prove that even this less popular form of tourism and recreation has an impact on the environment.
