Factors determining negative opinions on hunting and hunters in Poland
Abstract
In recent years hunters have been facing increased criticism concerning their activities related with game management. This has opened a national dispute over the role of hunting in Poland, which has resulted e.g. in significant changes in game law. In view of the above studies were conducted to indicate factors most frequently causing negative opinions on hunting.
A CAWI questionnaire survey was performed in April 2017 on a population of 563 respondents. Most comments (65.9%) concerning hunting were negative. Most frequently voiced proposals included elimination of hunting, the requirement of improved competence of hunters or eradication of pathologies from their ranks. Presented research results may provide an impulse for the Polish Hunting Association which areas of game management need to be priorities in efforts to improve the image of Polish hunting and hunters.
