The paper presents an optimization model for the number and location of temporary wood landings on a small forest area comprising 3 forest ranges in Oborniki Forest District. Methods. The optimization was conducted by analysing the location of tree stands, in which wood harvesting was planned, by variant selection of the number of landings and by determining the location of the landings as the central position related to the stands ascribed to the landing, weighted by the volume of wood to be harvested in the particular stands. The optimization criterion was to minimize the transportation labour resulting from transporting wood from the stands to the landings, for the whole analysed object. The analysis was conducted with the Cluster analysis algorithms available in the Statistica computer application. Results. In course of the calculations, carried out for 5 variants, the best one showed 6 landings. The average transportation labour necessary to transport the wood from the stands to the landings was 3063 m3, at an average distance of 0.83 km. Conclusion. The presented model of optimization of the number and location of wood landings proved to be efficient and useful for improving transportation activities in a forest area. ER -
