It was showed the roots of P. sylvestris were mainly located to a soil depth of 0–10 cm. This species was also characterized by the greatest share of roots more than 4 cm thick, which went deeper than in other species. The roots of P. ×rhaetica were on average less than 1 cm thick. Mountain pine appeared as a shallow rooted plant (up to 40 cm). Among all studied tree species the root systems of F. sylvatica were the most evenly distributed in a soil area. Compared to the studied pine species they had smaller share of roots in the layers 0–10 and 11–20 cm but a higher percentage participation in layers 21–30, 31–40 and 41–50 cm. ER -
